Snooze Shade Plus is a pram and pushchair accessory that works as both a sunshade and as a sleep aid during baby’s naptime. It has been designed to fit all of the popular brands of three and four-wheeled buggy. I have tried it on my Maclaren Triumph and my Quinny Jogger and it fits both of these.
Snooze Shade Plus looks like a black mesh cover that fits over the front of the buggy. It consists of two layers of black fabric, which is breathable with hundreds of tiny holes. The shade attaches to the pram or pushchair by velcro tabs that secure around the buggy, and I found that it was surprisingly easy to put on.
This product is designed to have two functions. As a sunshade, it protects baby from harmful UVA and UVB rays. The baby or toddler cannot really be seen once the shade is on, but there is a zip that opens one layer of the fabric to reveal a window – or lookout panel – so that baby can see out whilst remaining protected from 80% of UVA and UVB rays (UPF5). When the panel is closed, baby is protected from up to 94% of the light, and has UPF50+ protection, however there is a “sneek-a-peek” front opening, enabling mum to discreetly check on baby.
When the lookout panel is closed and the light is blocked out, the shade can be used as a sleep aid, enabling baby to nap in the dark whilst out and about.
We have been using the Snooze Shade Plus during the summer holidays and throughout a heatwave. My one-year-old son spends quite a lot of time in his buggy, and overall I have been very impressed by this product. We have had some lovely days out at the beach, in the park and on holiday. I found that my baby slept soundly when the panel was closed, and the temperature inside the buggy remained constant. When he was awake and we used it as a sunshade, he was always out of the sun and seemed comfortable and happy. Other parents have also noticed this product and made a point of asking me what it is and where they can get one.
Snooze Shade Plus comes with a fabric storage bag and packs away quite small and compact, making it ideal for travel as it fits into the basket of the buggy and is much lighter than a conventional parasol. The shade also acts as a barrier against mosquitoes, insects and pets. The product information says that it will protect against wind and chill on colder days, and having looked at the fabric I do think that it will offer some protection, at least until it is time to use the cosytoes again. I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to review this, and will continue to recommend this product.
The SnoozeShade Plus is available on the SnoozeShade website for £29.99
