We received the new DVD collection of the animated television series of Masha and the Bear for review. This series was originally produced in Russian and has been translated into 25 languages and aired in more than 100 countries.

The setting takes place in the middle of a forest, nearby an old train station where Masha lives. Masha is an energetic three-year-old girl who constantly gets herself into trouble due to her mischievous nature. Bear is a retired circus bear who has settled into the woods for a quiet new life. He is a warm, fatherly figure who tries to guide and keep his new friend (Masha) out of trouble, often ending up as the unintended victim of her mischievous antics.

In each episode, Masha is portrayed as a smart, kind and mischievous little girl who explores the world through numerous situations where she demonstrates her assertiveness while Bear tries to steer her out of trouble. Through these adventures with Masha, Bear and their other forest friends, viewers are entertained and also taught lessons about creativity, loyalty and true friendship.

My son started watching this DVD the day we received it and at 2 years old he can sit through the whole DVD which is 61 minutes long. Often after each episode (there is 9 in total), he would ask for more. He would also often ask for us to play him the DVD. He does find some episodes really funny as he sits there laughing while watching it. I don’t think he understands the lessons of the episodes as yet, but in a few months, he would probably start to understand it better rather just watching the animation. I would definitely recommend this DVD for its entertainment and educational value.
